Overview
Erddig is remarkable. Its garden is one of the most important in the UK. Its sumptuous furnishings have delighted visitors since the early 18th century. Its stories of life above and below stairs are unique in their vivid detail. But perhaps the most remarkable thing is that Erddig is here at all.
In the 1950s it seemed that the house was all but lost. The Yorkes who had cared for it for centuries were broke; their home, one of the finest country houses in Wales, was broken. Its rescue was extraordinary. But then Erddig is an extraordinary place. This guidebook by Adrian Tinniswood explains why.
